Biondi Santi

Brunello di Montalcino - Tenuta Greppo DOCG Riserva 1970

The result of an “exceptional” growing year, this generous ’70 Brunello Riserva bursts from the glass with a profusion of aromatics–succulent red and blue fruits, cedar, river rocks, exotic spices, herbs and smoke unfold with time. This wine balances its open-knit and genial personality with its freshness and its polished tannins, offering a charming, elegant drinking experience. Recorked in 2007, this 1970 Brunello Riserva receives a “standing ovation” from the estate, and it signals the passing of the Il Greppo torch from father, Tancredi, to son, Franco Biondi-Santi, as Tancredi unfortunately passed away that spring. Both the Annata and the Riserva undergo fermentation in traditional Slavonian oak for 18 days, followed by aging in large oak casks of 800 to 7,000 liters for a period of two to three years, and the Riserva is released six years after the harvest.
