Raína

Founded in 2002 by chef and winemaker Francesco Mariani, Raína is an artisanal winery in Montefalco born from a deep respect for the land. The project began by taking over the historic vineyards of “Raína”, a local peasant dedicated to the vines for decades, laying the foundations for a strictly high-quality, eco-conscious production. The estate’s philosophy centers entirely on environmental protection and sustainability, operating on 100% renewable energy powered by on-site solar panels and nearby hydroelectric plants. Spanning 10 hectares in one of Umbria’s most prestigious wine regions, the estate has practiced certified biodynamic agriculture since 2012 to preserve soil biodiversity. In the vineyard, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or synthetic pesticides are strictly avoided in favor of sulfur, copper, and plant infusions, with every step from pruning to harvest performed entirely by hand. This minimal intervention continues in the cellar, where no chemical additives are used except for a minimal amount of sulfites; red wines are never filtered to preserve their authentic character, while young whites undergo only a light clarification. The final production fully reflects the classic Montefalco terroir through its native varieties, featuring indigenous whites like Trebbiano and Grechetto alongside the iconic local reds.
